The surprisingly easy win that Jurgen Melzer recorded over Fabio Fognini in the first round was definitely among the most interesting results on Monday, but the Austrian will have to face a much tougher challenge against Julian Reister on Wednesday.

Of course, Julian Reister is not the most well-known player around, but he is nevertheless a guy that has managed to find his way back from quite a few injury problems and that has to count for a lot in today’s competitive tennis world. His qualification route to the first round wasn’t really that easy, but he had no problems in those qualifying rounds and his first round victory over Lukas Rosol should give him a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the battle against Melzer.

The problem that Jurgen Melzer might find hard to deal with is the fact that Reister is one of those players who want to play every single point as well as they possibly can. He isn’t flashy from the baseline and he doesn’t have any huge weapons in his arsenal, but he will never give up and that is a quality that can give you a decent edge over Melzer, who tends to be a bit lackluster these days and who even gives a few games away without a lot of resistance.

With that in mind, the plus handicap that is being offered on the hard-working German looks like a really good choice here. Melzer is hardly a force these days and he might easily give a very straightforward set away at some point, so backing Reister might easily be the right idea today, although it is indeed hard to choose between the games handicap and the overs, which also look quite interesting.
