Roger Federer has certainly made a lasting impression on those watching him play against Gilles Simon, but he will be up against a man that has made an even bigger impression in recent days on Friday – and the match-up might not suit him at all.

If there is one guy that has impressed everyone in Rome, then it simply has to be Jerzy Janowicz. The Pole has already announced himself in Paris last year, but the start of the current season has not been that great and many were already wondering about his real skills and capabilities.

Well, he has proven all his doubters wrong by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet – a very impressive run indeed. It is not only that – he has also shown that he is one of the most determined guys on the tour. He knew that Richard Gasquet would be able to out-play him in long and slow rallies, so he simply started swinging at every single ball – and that strategy worked like a charm and got him through to the encounter with Roger Federer.

Beating the Swiss number one should prove to be an impossible task for the Pole, but troubling him should not really be that hard. We all know that Federer often struggles against guys with big serves – and Janowicz does have a booming serve that will not let him rest at all. It should also be a big swap of gears for Federer, as Simon and Starace have virtually no serve at all, while this will be a completely different challenge, with break opportunities likely to be quite rare. With that in mind, the night match might last a bit longer that most would expect it to.
