Greyhound action is live on the Racing Post website every Wednesday through Sunday and tonight’s action comes from Hove and Henlow. We’ve focused on Hove to provide some greyhound betting tips for this evening, and amongst the selections we have a 12/1 outsider available at William Hill.
The Charlie Miller Stayers competition begins this evening at Hove over their 695m distance and it is those three heats that we have chosen to focus our attentions on as we look to provide some winning betting tips. The competition has pulled together some classy stayers and gives us a great opportunity to find some excellent bets.
The opening heat, at 9:06pm, sees Tullna Hawk in trap one likely to go off a short-priced, and worthy, favourite. This is courtesy of a blistering trial time of 41:33s at the end of March. However, in racing conditions last week it carded a slower time despite a clear run, although it did win. That was its first win in 16 races and being drawn in trap one can also be seen as a negative.
This means we can take the favourite on and trap 2 Holbeins Champ looks a decent dog, only finishing a length down to Tullna Hawk last week despite trouble. However, we think the best value might come from siding with the dog in trap 6, Dacent Barry, who is available at an overpriced 12/1 with William Hill.
Dacent Barry ran a solid 41:96s around this distance recently but the key is that he looks likely to get a nice run with the dog in trap 5 sleeping at the traps. He ran 41:76 in a trial around here in February so can go fast and with a clear run and a time similar to that he could provide a shock.
The 2nd heat runs at 9:24pm and looks a straight shoot-out between the two market principals, Droopys Xavier in trap 4, and Blonde Reagan in trap 6. Blonde Reagan was regarded by many as the top stayer in the country in 2012 but hasn’t looked quite the same dog in the early part of 2013 and in recent races has looked to lose some interest when not able to lead early. Droopys Xavier has got the better of Reagan in their last couple of meetings and we think he’ll do so again by leading from the traps to the line. Droopys Xavier is currently available at 6/4, again with William Hill.
The final heat, at 9:40pm, features the favourite to win the competition, Ballymac Pen, and she should be far too good for the 5 dogs she is competing against tonight. William Hill are a best price 8/11 and she’ll likely go off shorter than that price. A time of 41:32s last week was very impressive and there is nothing in this race that can get close to that time.
