Longshot of the day:
4.50 Newcastle – The Thirsty Bricky @ 12/1 (13.00) with Bet365

We head to the 2.40 at Southwell for the first of our horse racing tips for Tuesday 5th March, where Clubland is currently a best price of 6/1 (7.00) with Paddy Power. The four year old gelding won last time out despite a break of more than 100 days from the track, and the handicapper has left his mark the same. The 3lb claimer who takes the ride today piloted him to victory last time out and although he has been running mostly at Wolverhampton of late, the bay has won at Southwell before in August of last year, on his only career appearance at the Nottinghamshire venue. All things considered, the current odds on offer look like excellent value and must be taken advantage of.

Lukey Luke is also currently rated a 6/1 (7.00) chance with the Irish popular bookmaker and like the first of today’s horse racing tips, he also looks like a great value bet. Although yet to score in any of his 13 starts over obstacles, the 10 year old gelding did put in a career best performance last time out to finish second in a Class 4 handicap at Wetherby, improving upon a decent third place effort at Doncaster (which came after an absence from the course of almost two years). A repeat of that today, dropped back down to Class 5, would surely see him go close and with those two promising runs under his belt after such a long absence, I can see him finally breaking his duck today.

The brilliantly named The Thirsty Bricky is our Each-Way outsider today, currently priced at a generous looking 12/1 (13.00) with Bet365 to win the 4.50 at Newcastle. The veteran gelding last won in April 2012 and hasn’t been in the best of form so far this campaign, but last time out he showed us a glimpse of his capabilities with a staying on third at Fakenham. If he can build on that, he has a great chance of running into a place today, as he’s currently officially rated 7lbs higher than his last winning mark and given that he’s a proven mudlark, he could surprise a few in today’s conditions.
