It’s finally upon us! The 2013 Cheltenham Festival gets under way later today with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 1.30, but what should we back in the race? We think that the value lies in a 25/1 (26.00) chance with Ladbrokes, but you’ll have to read on to find out what. Plus, while all eyes are focused firmly on the Cotswolds, could there be value in the rest of today’s meetings? We certainly think so…
2.55 Sedgefield – Dun To Perfection @ 8/1 (9.00) with Bet365
3.05 Southwell – Aubrietia @ 6/4 (2.50) with Bet365
Longshot of the day:
1.30 Cheltenham – Pique Sous @ 25/1 (26.00) with Ladbrokes
The first of our free horse racing tips for Tuesday March 12th is Dun To Perfection in the 2.55 at Sedgefield. The 8/1 (9.00) currently on offer with Bet365 looks like great value based on his last time out success, when the six year old showed bundles of improvement to leave behind some poor form and win on heavy ground. The second placed horse that day has since gone on to win and the ground is on the soft side today, which we know won’t be an issue. Although stepping up in class, he’s clearly a horse on the up and he won’t need to improve that much to win at a big price.
In the 3.05 at Southwell, Aubrietia is rated a 6/4 (2.50) chance with Bet365 this morning. For me, the four year old filly ought to be an odds on shot today, which represents a value bet and therefore she’s the second of today’s horse racing tips. With form figures of 12111 (the second was only by a nose) she’s clearly in the form of her life and turned out quickly under a penalty today, she is probably still ahead of the handicapper. She’s been to today’s course twice before and won both, one of which was a course and distance success, and anything other than her completing the four-timer will be a complete surprise to me.
We can’t possibly leave Cheltenham completely out of our free horse racing tips on the first day of the Festival, so we’d like to point out Pique Sous in the 1.30, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. We picked this one out some time ago in our antepost preview and unusually, the price has actually lengthened ever so slightly to a best price this morning of 25/1 (26.00), courtesy of Ladbrokes. This represents tremendous value – the six year old Willie Mullins trained gelding has just the right sort of profile to win the race and the softening ground will suit him perfectly. Don’t be surprised to see a shock on the opening day of the Festival and don’t be surprised if it’s in this race.
