Our horse racing betting tips for Thursday August 8th include two short priced fancies with strong chances at Haydock and Yarmouth, as well as an Alan Bailey trained gelding that looks overpriced at current odds of 12/1 (13.00) with SkyBet. Read on for the full story…
2.10 Haydock – Morocco @ 13/8 (2.63) with BetVictor
4.00 Yarmouth – Estiqaama @ 13/8 (2.63) with BetVictor
Longshot of the day:
3.50 Brighton – St Ignatius @ 12/1 (13.00) with SkyBet
At current odds of 13/8 (2.63) with BetVictor, David O’Meara’s Morocco looks to be one of the best bets of the day in the 2.10 at Haydock. The four year old won well last time out, hacking up by an easy five lengths, and given that his trainer has opted to turn him out quickly under a penalty, you’d assume that he’s come out of that race well and still has more to give. This race looks a particularly weak one and I can’t see the penalty denying the selection back to back victories.
In the 4.00 at Yarmouth, Estiqaama is also currently a best price of 13/8 (2.63) with BetVictor. The three year old filly is in great form of late, with two victories from two this season (including one over course and distance) and despite a hike of 9lbs in the handicap, this small field (five opponents) doesn’t seem likely to deny her a hat trick.
St Ignatius seems generously priced this morning, at current odds of 12/1 (13.00) with SkyBet. The Alan Bailey trained gelding will run off bottom weight and with a useful 5lb claimer in the saddle, he will have a lovely racing weight. A really consistent sort, he’s sure to run his race and with three wins from just seven runs at the course (including two from two over today’s course and distance) he appears to be something of a course specialist. Despite all of this, the field does look competitive, and that’s why he’s our bigger priced Each-Way selection as opposed to one of our stronger fancies.
