We suffered two narrow defeats with yesterday’s horse racing betting tips but we’re keen to bounce back on Monday, with two more strong fancies and a 14/1 (15.00) chance with BetVictor that goes at Newcastle this evening. Read on for full details of today’s racing tips…
2.35 Huntingdon – Orthodox Lad @ 5/2 (3.50) with Bet365
4.50 Epsom – Breaking The Bank @ 4/1 (5.00) with Bet365
Longshot of the day:
5.45 Newcastle – Ambitious Icarus @ 14/1 (15.00) with BetVictor
Orthodox Lad is a strong fancy to win the 2.35 at Huntingdon, based on recent form. The consistent five year old hasn’t been outside the first three in his last five appearances, including a ten length victory at Worcester two runs back that he followed up with a second place finish at the same course last time out, despite being upped in class. He runs off the same mark today as on both of those occasions, which seems lenient to me, and the extra furlong in today’s race should pose no problem. The current odds of 5/2 (3.50) with Bet365 may not be enormous, but a winner is a winner.
Breaking The Bank is the second of our horse racing betting tips for Monday, currently a best price of 4/1 (5.00) with Bet365 to land the 4.50 at Epsom. The four year old has been in excellent touch this summer, having won three of his five races with a further runner-up finish to boot. It appears that he’s still progressing and even though he’s upped in class today, his last time out success goes unpenalised as it was an apprentice race, so William Muir’s gelding looks to be well ahead of the handicapper.
Our bigger priced Each-Way selection for Monday August 26th is Richard Guest’s Ambitious Icarus, who looks generously priced at best odds of 14/1 (15.00) with BetVictor this morning. The four year old is in decent nick having won at Nottingham earlier this month, before finishing a creditable fourth under a penalty and over a shorter trip last time out. Back up to 6f, I expect him to improve today, but a repeat of that Nottingham effort would see him finishing on the premises at a healthy price. His only previous visit to Newcastle yielded a place, which suggests he can be competitive at the course too.
