Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi has finished second in the $2,500 Omaha & Seven Card Stud Hi Low event, while Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier – already a bracelet winner at the 2011 WSOP – was beaten into third place, in the No Limit Hold’em (Six Handed) Championship event. WSOP Event #46 – $10,000 No Limit Hold’em (Six Handed) Championship
Joe Ebanks and Chris Moorman have had to pause their heads up clash, due to the new ten level limit at the 2011 WSOP.
Ebanks will return with a sizeable chip lead (around 11 million to 3.2 million) when play resumes tomorrow. The pair are not only doing battle for the WSOP bracelet, but the first prize of $1,158,481.
474 players bought into the $10,000 tournament, including Tom Marchese (47th, for $19,159), Sean Getzwiller (35th, for $24,773), Joe Cada (26th, for $29,228) and recent Pot Limit Omaha Champion Ben Lamb (12th, for $56,140).
Also enjoying a deep run was Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, who eventually busted in third place, for $447,074 in tournament prize money. Grospellier took down the Seven Card Stud Championship earlier at the 2011 WSOP, as well as finishing 11th in the 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship, and is terrific form.
WSOP Event #47 – $2,500 Omaha & Seven Card Stud Hi Low (8 or Better)
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who final tabled four events at the 2010 World Series of Poker, has had a near miss in the 2011 Omaha & Seven Card Stud Hi Low tournament.
Mizrachi was beaten heads up by Owais Ahmed, who collects $255,959 in addition to his first ever WSOP bracelet. Mizrachi’s consolation prize is $158,148.
Ahmed had started the day fourth in chips and, like the rest of the players in the tournament, was having trouble preventing Mizrachi from dominating. At one point, Mizrachi had around a third of the tournament chips in his possession, but after Ahmed had eliminated Scott Bohlman in fourth place, things began to pick up.
Ahmed began heads up play with a two to one chip deficit, but eventually ground down “The Grinder”, in a swingy clash that lasted for around 90 minutes.
WSOP Event #48 – $1,500 No Limit Hold’em
30 of the original 2,713 players remain ahead of the third days’ poker in WSOP event number 48, the penultimate $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament of the series.
Sebastian Winkler leads Matt Stout and Alexander Queen in the chip counts, with Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Mike DeMichele also remaining in the hunt for WSOP gold. $650,223 of the $3,662,550 prize pool is set aside for the eventual winner, in addition to the WSOP bracelet.
David Singer, Jonathan Little, James Mackey and Sorel Mizzi all cashed in the tournament, but were unable to survive the second day.
WSOP Event #49 – $2,500 Fixed Limit 2-7 Triple Draw (Lowball)
There are just thirteen players remaining in the hunt for the last 2-7 event of the 2011 World Series of Poker, with $189,818 of prize money on offer for the eventual winner.
Leading the chase ahead of the third and hopefully final day of the tournament, is Jason Mercier, winner of the Six Handed Pot Limit Omaha tournament earlier in the 2011 WSOP. There are still plenty of other talented poker players left in the hunt though, including Eli Elezra, Scott Seiver, Justin Bonomo and Galen Hall.
If Mercier can take his second bracelet of this 42nd annual World Series of Poker, he will have the WSOP Player of the Year title all but stitched up.
WSOP Event #50 – $5,000 No Limit Hold’em (Triple Chance)
The WSOP only event to get under way yesterday was the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em (Triple Chance) event, which attracted a total of 817 entries, making for a prize pool of $3,839,900.
Amongst the star studded field were the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Humberto Brenes, Shaun Deeb, J.C. Tran, Vanessa Selbst and Jonathan Duhamel, though none of those could survive the first day’s poker.
236 players did make it through though, including Josh Arieh, Carlos Mortensen, Gavin Smith, Jake Cody and Barry Greenstein. The players will be bidding for $825,604 in first place prize money, in addition to the fiftieth WSOP bracelet to be awarded at the 2011 World Series of Poker.
Kicking off tomorrow will be the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi low Split (8 or Better) event, as well as the $2,500 Mixed Limit Hold’em (Limit & No Limit) event.
