Grigor Dimitrov, who is coming into the Australian Open on the back of some truly fabulous performances in Brisbane, looks set to start his campaign with a win over the experienced Frenchman.

The Australian Open is finally here and there are some very peculiar matches on the schedule today. Big stars like Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova are going to be in action and it will be interesting to see whether they will be able to crush their opponents or not, but one can also take a look away from the main courts in order to see top-notch tennis.

The match between Grigor Dimitrov and Julien Benneteau should indeed be quite interesting as well, as the talented Bulgarian will be trying to build on his Brisbane performances by winning against the older Frenchman. Last year, Dimitrov was able to get to the second round in Melbourne before losing against Nicolas Almagro, but the stage looks set for him to go a bit further this year. The draw has been rather kind to him, as he will be the favourite in the second round no matter who is going to be his opponent.

It is hard to see what hopes will Benneteau have in this particular match. The H2H stands at 2-0 in Dimitrov’s favour and the longer match format is not obviously going to help him either, so it is not easy to see what the Frenchman is going to do today. He is the more experienced guy of the two, of course, but that alone is not usually enough for a victory in a tennis duel. All looks set for a win for the Bulgarian – and that is what I am going to be recommending as a bet to go for today.
