Saturday the 24th of May at Wimbledon brings potentially the best night’s greyhound racing of the year so far with the Greyhound Derby down to the semi-final stage and we are treated to the heats of the Derby Plate, for greyhounds who exited in the first 3 rounds of the Derby, and the Champion Hurdle. Both competitions culminate on Derby final night. Below we highlight the best of our free greyhound racing betting tips for the Wimbledon card with Totesport offering the best price on more than half our selections.

The three heats of the Derby Plate kick off the evening at Wimbledon with the first race at 7:10pm where Bittles Bar the 2013 Derby finalist heads the market. I’m not convinced Bittles Bar is in anywhere near the form he was last year and he exited this year in the opening round – and in this heat I can see him being held up by Toms Knowledge who is drawn inside him in trap 1 which could leave the race open. It should leave it open in particular for the two on the outside, Leamaneigh Turbo and Borneo who follow Bittles Bar in the market. Preference is for Borneo who can run a big race for Peter Cronin and can be backed at a stand-out 9/2 with Totesport.

The second heat, at 7:25pm, can be won by Islas Scolari at 4/1 with bet365 and in the process upset two of the Derby Plate favourites in Southern Mesut and Airfield Paudie. There is a strong chance of trouble from the traps between those two but even if one pinches a lead we would still have a strong chance as Scolari has been running very well recently and is renowned for a good finish to his races.

The final heat, at 7:40pm, looks to be the most competitive and with Mileheight Alba looking too short in the market, given he is drawn in trap 3 and much prefers the rails, you can make a good bet on any of the other 5 greyhounds that you prefer. Our preference is for another Peter Cronin-trained greyhound in the shape of All About Ya who reached the final of the Arc at Swindon and has that rails draw that Mileheight Alba desires. He should come away well along the rails and despite a first round Derby exit he showed in a subsequent trial that he can go very fast (28:26s). All About Ya can be backed at 5/1 with Paddy Power.

As regards the Champion Hurdle, we have picked out two in that ante-post market too and we reckon they can both win their heats. Razldazl Butch (7:55pm) is 9/4 to back at BetVictor whilst Droopys Lorenzo can be backed at 3/1 with Totesport to win the 8:25pm race. Both greyhounds are selected on the basis that they can ping out and lead their hurdle races with both capable of flashy times too.
