The TV Trophy competition over Yarmouth’s marathon 843m brought together a short sample of some of the finest UK marathon distance greyhounds and in the semi-finals the super impressive Musical Gaga broke the track record. Musical Gaga was our antepost selection at evens (2.0) and she is now a best price 1/2 with Paddy Power, with 2/7 available elsewhere. Below we take a brief look at the six dogs in the final in the hope of illustrating why the 1/2 on offer is actually value and worthy of being our best free greyhound racing betting tip.
Trap 1: Freedom Cache @ 25/1 William Hill
Freedom Cache finished over 8 lengths behind Musical Gaga when finishing second to her in the heats and despite his time being the third fastest of all the finalists he would need to find a lot more to be competitive, thus the 25/1 quote from William Hill.
Trap 2: Farloe Tango @ 7/2 Paddy Power
Heralded as the next big thing staying wise, Farloe Tango is the only reason Musical Gaga isn’t 1/5 or shorter. Open to improvement over marathon distances but would have to find 7 lengths on the clock based on the runs in the heats and that was with a relatively clear run.
Trap 3: Golden Donaire @ 66/1 William Hill
It isn’t very often you see a greyhound quoted as 66/1 in a one-off race but that’s what we have with Golden Donaire. From time-to-time he can show the odd bit of flashy early pace but even then he wouldn’t get competitive as he looks likely to struggle late in the race.
Trap 4: Incitatus @ 14/1 Paddy Power
Inicitatus won the “other” semi-final but in doing so recorded a time almost a full second slower than Musical Gaga. Has lots to find despite obviously running well and could be that the biggest part he plays is to move slightly left out of the traps to avoid trouble with Gaga.
Trap 5: Musical Gaga @ 1/2 Paddy Power
It is tough to see anything beating Gaga, especially after the storming track record in the heats. Has won her last six races in style and the only time she has lost recently has been over 6 bend distances where she has been seen to be finishing well, showing the marathon distances suit. Also easily saw off Farloe Tango over 730m at Nottingham fairly recently.
Trap 6: Blonde Reagan @ 20/1 bet365
Last year’s winner, when at Monmore, simply hasn’t been reproducing his best form this year and would definitely need to lead this to get competitive. Lost out eight lengths to Farloe Tango in the semi-finals but on the best of her form could compete for the minor honours behind Musical Gaga.
In my eyes it is impossble to see a way for Musical Gaga to lose this race, she has been running that well. In fact, the 1/2 at Paddy Power is likely a good price for those who are happy backing short-priced greyhounds.
If pushed for something as an alternative, I’d perhaps go for an each way bet on Blonde Reagan in the hope that somehow Farloe Tango doesn’t get running. bet365 offer the best each way terms and you can get almost 7/1 about Reagan finishing in the top two.
