The high class greyhound competitions continue at a swift pace with the Gold Cup from Monmore starting on Monday the 12th of August featuring a quality field of 36 greyhounds all looking to take home the first prize of £10,000. The Gold Cup is ran over Monmore’s 480m distance and has attracted some of the best four bend greyhounds at the moment, perhaps most notably we see Loughteen Blanco compete just five days after smashing his way to glory in the Hove Sussex Cup. We have two free greyhound racing betting tips for the competition, with the best of those seeing us back a flying machine at a healthy price of 6/1 with Coral.

It is perhaps safe to say that Eden Star hasn’t quite lived up to his potential to a combination of misfortune and injury but he can go part of the way to creating more of a history for himself by racing to victory in the Monmore Gold Cup at the 6/1 price available with Coral.

Fans of Eden Star will know he was the “big thing” on the greyhound scene in the early part of 2012 and was the antepost favourite for the Greyhound Derby but after an excellent first round performance he was withdrawn injured and since then hasn’t been quite right.

Since withdrawing from the 2012 Derby he has been lightly raced, with only 6 competitive races in that time, albeit he has a significant amount of trials, but with four wins from those six races it shows when he does turn up to race that he runs well.

A 2013 Derby campaign didn’t see Eden Star feature further than the second round but since then his trial work and most recently a race over the Gold Cup’s distance at Monmore show he is in fine fettle.

The key thing we were able to take away from his performance on the 1st of August was not only his ability to show early pace, which was no secret, but his ability to see out the full trip which is something that has been questioned about Eden Star. This leaves us of the opinion that he could be back to somewhere near his best.

He clearly runs Monmore well too. In 5 races or trials he has failed to run slower than 28:27s and ran an uncalculated time of 28:05s last time out, amongst the fastest of the year.

Backing Eden Star at the 6/1 available with Coral for the Monmore Gold Cup makes the most sense when you consider the class of the dog and the prices of the competition. It looks like he is back to form and, if so, he will take some beating.

Whilst it is hard to ignore the credentials of the favourites, Shaneboy Alley (9/2) and Lemon Pluto (11/2), I like the idea of sticking with a dog in form and the one that stands out is the aforementioned Loughteen Blanco, who can be backed at 10/1 with William Hill, and he is the second of our free greyhound racing tips for the Monmore Gold Cup.

He was a somewhat surprise winner of the Sussex Gold Cup last week when he was expected to be outpaced by Express Master early and outstayed by Teejays Bluehawk – neither of which happened as he raced to victory.

The 480m of Monmore suits even better than Hove’s 515m and he is taken to put up a bold showing in this competition too where the only negative might be it would have been ideal if he’d had enough time between competitions to trial around the Monmore track.

Regardless, he has shown in the past he runs Monmore well and 10/1 for a greyhound that we know is in excellent form looks a fair play to me.
