The highlight of Saturday the 31st of May‘s greyhound racing is of course the Greyhound Derby 2014 Final but there are a number of high profile supporting races with the Derby Plate Final perhaps the most anticipated of those. The Derby Plate is a competition for the greyhounds who exited the Derby in the opening three rounds and with the heats having been last week we are left with the six finalists. Below we attempt to break the race down and offer a free greyhound racing betting tip at 7/2 with Betfair Sportsbook on the race.

Regular followers of BetPal’s free greyhound racing betting tips will be delighted to see Borneo and Jaytee Seville at the head of the market for the Derby Plate Final after the greyhounds were recommended ante-post for the competition at 14/1 and 20/1 respectively.

The best early pace in the race looks set to come from the outside traps and in particular Brosna King, in trap 5, who scorched to an impressive heat win at 14/1 when he was able to hold off the surging Jaytee Seville by a short head. He essentially got a clear run and his time of 28:69s is unlikely to be good enough to win this calibre of race.

All About Ya is another heat winner with reasonable early but he is drawn in 3 when it’s likely he’d prefer one so he can hold the rails and go clear. He doesn’t look fast enough to win this race. Another who doesn’t look like he has the ability to win is Benkaat Nero, who despite being a good greyhound, would have to come from the back of the field and others will be finishing stronger.

Droopys Norris, coming from trap 1, can possibly grab an early lead on the rails to challenge Brosna King and whilst he can go reasonably quick around Wimbledon the belief is that even if he leads he can be picked up.

The two market principals, Jaytee Seville and Borneo, are the two to focus your attentions on. Borneo won his heat in impressive fashion, leading from start to finish, and in a flashy 28:39 (+10). He looks unlikely to lead this race however with Brosna King looking to have better early out wide. However, he can get a good run in behind and being the faster greyhound should be able to stake a strong claim. Jaytee Seville will be looking to win the race in the opposite fashion, by running on strong late as evidenced by his heat performance when he just failed to pick up Brosna King. He found a lot of trouble on that occasion and still looked impressive.

Borneo is the favourite but we can expect him to record a slower time than in the heats given the draw of the race with Brosna King a solid starter on his direct left. He can still win the race if not leading but it certainly gives others a chance. On the inside Droopys Norris will likely lead along the rails but the belief is that Jaytee Seville can follow him round and turn in a decent trouble free pitch in about fourth place – from there he can go to work and use his excellent strength in the second half of the race to pass those in front of him in what could be a scrappy race. A 28:17s (+10) time from pre-Derby shows that he can go super fast and the 7/2 with Betfair Sportsbook is a stand-out price.
