The 1st round of the Greyhound Derby begins this Friday with the first 13 heats and you can find our best bets for that evening by clicking this link. Heats number 14 through to 26 of the first round take place on Saturday and there are some fantastic heats which leads to some fantastic bets. Whereas our best bet for the Friday’s night’s racing was a short-priced favourite, our best bet for Saturday’s action comes in the shape of a 7/1 chance with BetVictor.

Cloheena Micky is our idea of a great bet in the 19th heat of the first round of the Greyhound Derby and is available to back at a very big, and generous, 7/1 with BetVictor. Heat 19 goes at 8:42pm and Micky is significantly shorter with other bookmakers and is real value in the heat.

The heat isn’t packed with quality and Cloheena Micky might have a few things in his favour which will lead to him grabbing victory. Trap 1, Fermoy Henry, is the favourite but is hard to fancy at his current price and we believe his price is made up on the basis that he will lead the race.

However, we believe that it is actually our selection, Cloheena Micky, who will lead. He has had two nice sectionals in his two recent Wimbledon trials (leading Ballymac Eske last time out) and not only is he the sole wide seed in the race but trap 5 is vacant which should see a nice clear run.

7/1 is a very big price for a dog we think can lead and make all.

In the opening heat of the night, Heat 14, at 7:25pm, we can make a strong case for trap 1, Newinn Rocket, who can be backed at 9/4 with BetVictor.

It looks a contest between our selection and the dog in the trap next door, Frisby Barney, who has been priced up as the favourite and is as short as 11/8. However, the two look evenly matched in the early pace department and we think Rocket can hold his position from trap one and if he leads, Barney isn’t the type of dog to come back at him, whilst there doesn’t seem to be anything else in the field capable of challenging from off the pace.

Droopys Loner had a great run to the semi-finals last year and she can put up a similar effort this year and looks sure to be good enough to reach at least the quarter-finals. Loner’s problem is that she doesn’t quite see out the full 480m at Wimbledon and in better fields is picked off late on in races but she won’t have that issue on Saturday night.

Loner is available to back at 11/10 with bet365 in Heat 16 at 7:54pm and whilst that may sound short it is actually good value whilst she competes in this company. Trap one isn’t ideal for all at Wimbledon but it suits Loner and this is a simple case of out and gone.

We recommend a small bet on the Shawfield-based Greenwell Mentor in Heat 20, 8:58pm, at the 3/1 available at William Hill. He looks to be blessed with the best early in the race and if leading should win as based on recent trials he looks to be running very well. Longwood Warrior looks good in trap 2, with one vacant, but is so unreliable behaviour-wise that we can avoid.

Finally, our main ante-post selection, Farloe Warhawk goes in Heat 23 and can get off to a great start in the competition and win his heat at the evens (2.0) available with bet365.
