The remaining 8 heats of the 2nd round of the English Greyhound Derby 2013 take place on Saturday the 8th of June after the previous 8 heats had taken place the previous day. The antepost favourite Ballymac Eske goes in this batch of heats and he should stand out this weekend but we have a number of other free greyhound racing betting tip available including our bet of the night at 3/1 with BetVictor.

Our main bet of the evening comes in Heat 13 at 8:58pm and sees us opposing The Arc winner Shaneboy Alley for a number of reasons. After his first round heat last weekend, Alley was bundled over by a fellow dog and was said to have jumped the barrier and ran the in-field for a substantial time.

The next day he was reported as sore and bruised, and obviously this is far from ideal preparation for any race, never mind the next round of the Derby.

It is our belief that the dog won’t be 100% and we have taken a chance with the dog in trap 3, Fire Height Spec, from Barrie Draper’s camp to cause an upset. Fire Height Spec is available to back at 3/1 with BetVictor.

Fire Height Spec has very exciting early pace and he looks like to lead on the inside early in this race and that is despite coming from a non-favourable trap 3 draw. On the outside, Shaneboy Alley does have the best early in the race but if he isn’t fully recovered from last week’s fall we might get a chance to lead with our selection.

Even if turning 2nd to Alley, we still can’t rule our Fire Height Spec’s chances as on the clock he might have a length or two on Shaneboy Alley. Keep your bets modest as we’re taking a chance on a number of factors in this race.

In Ballymac Eske’s race at 8:10pm (Heat 10), he will go off at a very short price and is currently 8/13 with William Hill but even at that price is a touch of value but in the same race we are taking a chance with the massively priced Farkland Tyson at 25/1 with Ladbrokes.

The race is full of early pace but Farkland Tyson looks to have the best of it and is taken to lead the field. When leading last week he ran a very flashy 28:77s which was faster than Ballymac Eske, who actually had a clear run despite a poor start.

It is more than likely that Ballymac Eske will show his authority off the 3rd bend in this race, and our bet would be better if trap 2 wasn’t a sleeper at the traps as it will give Eske a better run, but we’re taking the chance that Tyson really gets clear and doesn’t stop – at the price it is worth that chance.

Loughteen Blanco completely missed the break in the first round and in reality he did well to even qualify for the 2nd round but we feel the dog, who normally traps very well, will make amends for that performance by winning Heat 12 at 8:42pm.

All of the early pace in the race comes from trap 5 Cabra Buck but Loughteen Blanco can turn second to that dog and then prove too strong to grab a narrow victory.

Cabra Buck is too short at 6/4 and that allows us to back Loughteen Blanco at 4/1 with William Hill, with other firms as low as 9/4.

Our final free greyhound tip for the 2nd round of the Greyhound Derby 2013 comes in the very final heat, Heat 16, at 9:48pm and we are taking on another favourite who was impressive in the opening round.

Screen Critic looked excellent in the first round but so did Lemon Pluto and it is with Lemon Pluto we attach our final bet at the 10/3 on offer with Paddy Power.

Both dogs have fantastic early pace but we don’t think Critic, coming from trap 5, will be able to clear Pluto at the corner and if he doesn’t he won’t be able to handle Lemon Pluto’s nice middle pace. Whereas if the roles were reversed, Pluto might still be able to pass Critic in the middle stages of the race.
