The ATP tournament in Munich will witness some very tense match-ups on Friday, but the all-German contest between Florian Mayer and Tommy Haas will undoubtedly be the real highlight for the local fans.

Most people will naturally expect Tommy Haas to emerge victorious at the end of the day, as there are plenty of factors that suggest that particular result. First of all, there is the fact that he is ranked a bit higher than Florian Mayer – and he is also the more experienced player of the two. That alone obviously wouldn’t be enough for him being such a big favourite, but there is more to that favoritism. For example, one could certainly argue that he has been the better player of the two in recent times, having beaten the likes of Novak Djokovic in Miami and Ernests Gulbis in Munich. And, well, one could also point out that he has a 4-0 H2H record against his today’s rival.

All of those things are completely correct and it is clear that Haas is going to be backed by plenty of punters today. However, things are rarely as straightforward as they seem to be at the very first glance. The fact is that Mayer is one of those guys that can produce a surprisingly good performance out of nowhere and there have been some signs of him preparing for such a performance in recent days. His struggles against Kubot and Matosevic might not suggest that it is going to happen on Friday, but, well, he is just one of those guys that rarely perform according to the form book.

With everything that in mind, it seems that the bookmakers have set the odds according to the most obvious factors, which means that those who believe that Mayer will win have a chance to back him at some very juicy prices. And doing so is indeed what I am going to recommend today.
