The last round of World Cup Group games take place on Monday through Thursday. A fabulous world cup so far, with great games and shocks a-plenty. Who will qualify for the round of 16?
Brazil play point-less Cameroon and should qualify for the last sixteen with a win and top the group. No value at 1/6 to do so though. The interesting battle sees Mexico and Croatia play. Mexico’s impressive draw with Brazil gives them the advantage here with 4 points to Croatia’s 3. A draw secures their path through and with the impressive Ochoa and Marquez marshalling the defence their qualification is most likely, yet Croatia are favourites for the match. This is probably because f Brazil take anything from their game with Cameroon then Croatia will need a victory to go through at the expense of the Mexicans so the onus is on them to attack
I like Mexico’s chances to soak up the pressure, play on the counter and at Evens, draw no bet, with Skybet are an attractive proposition
Holland and Chile are through and meet in the last round of games. The incentive here is to win the group and, probably, avoid Brazil in the last 16. Both teams have been impressive and great to watch. In the absence of the suspended Van Persie the Dutch will probably switch to a 5-3-2 with wing-backs and make themselves difficult to beat. A draw wins them the group with their superior goal difference.
I like Holland here, Chile’s game is based on closing down, hitting on the counter but they have to come out, and that will leave them vulnerable to Holland doing the same. Holland 8/5 Winner Sports
Colombia play Japan needing a point to top the group whilst the Ivory Coast should qualify with a win against the frustratingly conservative Greeks, who were tipped up on Betpal at 16-1 for bottom scorers in the World cup and haven’t looked much like scoring in two games. Whilst Japan are a trifle unfortunate to only have one point from their first two games, playing Colombia last is a tough one. Colombia at 7/5 and Ivory Coast at 11/10 in singles and a double with William Hill for me
Costa Rica have been revelations and to see them at 7/2 to beat England is a big price considering England’s likely team changes and defensive problems. Costa Rica are all about pace, and i think they will get at least the point they need to qualify. Costa Rica 11/5 draw no bet with Bet Victor, superb price.
The other game is a doozy, and Italy play Uruguay in a game that Italy can draw to qualify but will want to win the group and so avoid, probably, Colombia. The Italians were so disappointing in their second game, but should recover to beat the Uruguayans. Even allowing for the brilliance of Suarez, i like Italy to bounce back, try to win and hope England do them a favour. Italy at 9/5 BetVictor
France should win against Ecuador and qualify from the group with three wins out of 3, and have looked one of the best teams in the tournament so far. Even accepting that a draw means they top the group anywhere near evens, such as the 9/10 current quoted by Winner Sports, looks attractive. That will open the door to the Swiss to beat Honduras and qualify but they are priced in to do so at around 1/2 best
Argentina and Nigeria play knowing a draw takes both through, and Argentina top the group with a draw. Only the brilliance of Messi saw Argentina past Iran, whilst Nigeria looked much more threatening against Bosnia than they did against Iran, far more effective on the counter than when having to make the running as they did in the first game
Knowing this, i don’t see Argentina being gung-ho here, although it would be a major surprise if they didn’t get at least a point. I think it should be low-scoring, and like evens under 2.5 goals with Skybet. 0-0, 1-1 etc just will suit both sides
After two great games at the weekend Germany and USA meet in the last game on 4 points each, both needing a point to go through and two German managers facing off. A draw wouldn’t be the greatest surprise here, it has to be said! Indeed the draw has already been backed into 7-4 from the 5-2 first quotes at the end of the Portugal-USA match. Unders on goals are favourite too.
So with such a big expectation built into prices, time to be a bit contrarian and looking at the half-time full time market see 18/5 on draw HT, Germany FT with BetVictor. I just have my doubts that this German team will risk not topping the group by playing ultra-conservatively. going for the win, ensuring topping the group makes sense too
Exciting times for the Algeria 7-1 to qualify out of the group bet after their fantastic 4-2 victory over South Korea, attacking with verve from the first minute. Belgium should qualify as group winners against South Korea, no surprises there and Algeria need at least a point against a pretty drab Russian side, who have their two best strikers on the bench, out of favour, and create few chances. I like Algeria to use the same approach as the second game, and are priced as big underdogs, available at 7/4 draw no bet with BetVictor.
