The group games are complete, and the tournament moves onto the eight last sixteen games on Saturday. Each are previewed and tipped here

Brazil v Chile

Old Copa America rivals meet in the first knockout game of the tournament, with Brazil 8/13 favourites and Chile 11/2. This won’t be an easy game for Brazil, against opponents who know them well and proved adept in their group games with closing down of the opposition and in the likes of Vargas and Sanchez plenty of attacking threat

In Neymar of course the hosts have one of the great talents of this world cup, but the rest of the team rarely matches his brilliance. Also, apart from the excellent Thiago Silva, Brazil have looked vulnerable at the back, particularly down the flanks, in each game. Whilst I won’t go so far as to tip Chile for an upset, this could well be an open game, with goals with Brazil reluctant to defend and Chile unlikely to sit back either. Over 3.5 goals BetVictor at 2/1 looks an interesting play

Colombia v Uruguay

The Colombia price for this game has shortened a lot with the absence of Suarez and they are now at best even money for this game. Colombia won their group readily, led by the excellent James Rodriguez supported by the likes of Cuadrado. I would be a bit wary of a short price though. Uruguay will be playing with a sense of misjustice, even greater determination and are tactically astute. Whilst they will rely on Cavani to keep them in the game, i wouldn’t be surprised to see extra-time, or even the upset given the value the Uruguay price at 100/30 outright or my preferred play 9/4 draw no bet with Skybet

Netherlands v Mexico

A difficult game for the Dutch, with Mexico impressive throughout their group including drawing with Brazil. Marshalled by the evergreen Marquez in defence, and sepaheaded by the dangerous Peralta up front they are going to cause problems . Whether they can cope with the excellence of Robben and the rested Van Persie is the issue and i feel the Dutch may just have too much, and can be backed at 23/20 BetVictor

Costa Rica v Greece

Two surprise packages for the last sixteen and one of the toughest games to call. Greece are solid, and unexciting, few goals but in what may be priceless for this type of game a huge advantage in experience against a Costa Rica team with pace and flair, especially in striker Joel Campbell but they may be lacking a bit of nous for this stage of the competition.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see extra-time here, and expect it to be cagey. The draw at 11/5 Bet365 for me

France v Nigeria

Nigeria are one of the few African success stories of this World Cup, with astute tactics allied to the pace of Musa and Emenike up front to make it out of the group. A tough task against a very impressive French team though, with a very solid back five, flair and strength in midfield and Benzema’s goals up front. France are of course strong favourites for the match at around 8/15 best. There is more value in France Half time-full time at 27/20 Ladbrokes as would expect them to step up another gear and control the game

Germany v Algeria

No surprises that Germany are 1/3 or shorter for this game against Algeria, who did fantastically to get out of their group but won’t be expected to progress any further. Whilst Germany look a bit pedestrian at the back, their strengths across midfield in retaining possession, and then spearheaded by the goals of Muller at number nine mean this is a tough task for the North Africans who will no doubt go for it. My idea of a bet here is Germany to win to Nil at 6/5 Skybet

Argentina v Switzerland

Argentina another prohibitive favourite in this last sixteen match at 1/2 and few will expect them not to progress. A key to this game may be that switzerland played their last group game in Manaus, and have to turn round and play Argentina on Tuesday. 5 teams who played games in Manaus (heat, humidity, travel distance) all lost their subsequent game, and the goals scored/conceded is 3-11 from the “Manaus” sides in the subsequent game

Argentina just have to go from port allegre (coastal cool conditions) to sao paolo (coastal, short journey), we know have goals in them and we know that the one very good team Switzerland have played, France, put five past them

As a speculative play for these factors,  am looking at 11-2 over 4.5 goals with BetVictor

Belgium v USA

Belgium won all three group games without ever looking fluent and will have to step up to go very deep in the tournament. What they currently do have in their favour is a very impressive back five and defensive midfield that will be very difficult to break down and will keep them in every game for long periods

The USA are in some ways similar. Superbly coached and organised, strong, fit and solid but probably without the class to go a long way from here. That said they also are going to be difficult to beat. With Under 2.5 goals an 8/13 favourite in this game, a tight one is expected

I would think a draw, and extra-time, is a strong possibility for which Bet365 are best priced at 13/5
