This year’s Fed Cup is going to start this weekend with the first round of ties and it seems that Italy might be in with a decent chance this time around, as they have a rather good draw early on and two in-form players that can win ties on their own.

Unlike the Davis Cup, the Fed Cup is a much shorter contest with only eight teams in the main draw, but that does not mean that it would be a competition not worth following. It is, as it brings plenty of interesting betting opportunities and the outright market is just one them.

This year, one can hardly overlook the chance that the Italian team has to win the prestigious title. They are going to start the campaign with a match against the USA and that might look horrible, but the Americans are going to be without their biggest stars and the tie is going to take place on clay, which should give Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci a comfortable edge against everyone from the American team.

The fact that the Italians would also get to choose the surface in the second round against the Czech Republic means that they should be the favourites in that clash as well, so it is hard to see them not being able to reach the finals. The Italians have two in-form players in Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci and that can be more than enough for them to win the trophy this year, especially since they can also rely on the talented Knapp for backup.

It is not going to be a walk in the park, but it seems that this is the best chance the Italians have had for years, so I expect them to take advantage of the good draw and capture the trophy in 2013.
