The ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome looks incredibly promising if you are a true tennis fan, as all the biggest stars will be in action this week. However, after seeing many of them playing quite poorly in Madrid, it is indeed quite tough to predict who is going to do the best job over the next few days.

One obviously has to give Rafael Nadal a huge amount of credit for winning in Madrid, but the truth is that he still isn’t as dominant as he would like to be these days. Moreover, the French Open is just behind the corner and he might therefore want to get some rest before that crucial tournament. It would be ridiculous to suggest that he is not going to try his best in Rome, but perhaps he is indeed going to have the upcoming weeks in the back of his mind.

So who is he going to face in his first match of the week? Well, it is going to be Fabio Fognini, who has secured this privilege by crushing Andreas Seppi in two very easy sets on Monday. The charismatic Italian is one of those guys that you cannot always trust, but you just know that he is going to give his best against someone like Nadal, especially since he is going to get plenty of cheers from his fans for every single well-played point.

At the end of the day, it is almost impossible to see him winning, but he has been playing well enough in recent weeks and he should be able to challenge Rafael Nadal on Wednesday. All kinds of plus handicaps look good here, but the set handicap looks like the best choice given the massive price at which it is currently being offered.
