Russia Win @ 13/10 (BetVictor)
Euro 2012 Russia
Side with Russia in their Group A opener with the Czech Republic. The 13/10 with BetVictor offers enough incentive to take a punt on the group favourites taking maximum points from their first fixture.
Undefeated in 14 games, the Russians last tasted defeat back in February 2011. Since then, they have picked up some notable scalps, including Euro 2012 participants Denmark and Ireland, and a confidence boosting 3-0 friendly win versus Italy in a pre-tournament warm up.
The Euro 2012 Russia squad has a healthy amount of firepower within it, and the strikers are finding form at the perfect time. Pavel Pogrebnyak bagged some late season goals for Fulham, while Alexsander Kerzhakov has been flagged as a potential Golden Boot dark horse by one or two decent judges. Coupled with a defence that has conceded just 2 goals in the last 10 games, and the Russians look a strong unit.
The Czech Republic qualified for the finals via the play-offs, but are well below the levels they have reached in previous International tournaments. Petr Cech and Tomas Rosicky are well known to fans of the English Premier League, and it will be Rosicky who carries his nations hopes – but coming into the competition, he is carrying a hamstring injury and much will depend on his fitness. In truth, the Czechs have been inconsistent throughout the last 12 months (5 wins 2 draws and 3 defeats) and against one of the stronger teams in Europe, they are likely to come up short.
