Euro 2012 France

The French have put together a very strong run, and are growing in popularity in the betting market as the competition moves forward. Having gone 22 games unbeaten, including a win over Germany in a friendly, France are brimming with confidence. They also recorded a 4-1 win over Ukraine in a friendly back in June 2011, that game again took place on Ukrainian soil, in the Donbass arena. In addition, the Euro 2012 co-hosts have yet to beat Les Bleus in 6 attempts, drawing 3 and losing 3.

The 1-1 draw between England and France leaves Laurent Blanc’s men needing a win to ensure their progression, so they are likely to be just as positive as they were in their opening game. France fired in more shots on target than any other team in those opening games and the Ukrainian defence will be put under considerable pressure.

Euro 2012 Ukraine

Andrei Shevchenko was already the hero of Ukrainian football before his brace versus Sweden, and despite his advancing years, he remains the biggest threat to the French defences. Against the Swedes however, Shevchenko did not last the 90 minutes, and with a 4 day turn around, he may lose some sharpness. Certainly the rest of his team appeared to run out of steam, and late goals could be on the cards as the French showed the complete opposite against England – they were pushing, pressing and full of energy right up until the final whistle. With France looking superior all over the pitch, they look too big in the match odds market at odds-against.

Euro 2012 Tip

Bet365 go 11/10 on a France win and anything over evens looks a decent punt. Ukraine beat a fairly average Sweden side, but needed some luck late on when they appeared to tire. France are a strong, creative side and look the value. Late goals could also be on the cards unless the game is wrapped up early.
