Tournament form

Germany took complete control of the so called ‘group of death’, and recorded wins against Portugal, Holland and Denmark. In what was a daunting group, they have qualified impressively and have moved alongside Spain in the betting market to win the trophy outright. Greece meanwhile, took a very different path to the quarter finals. After battling to a commendable 1-1 draw in the opening game of the tournament versus Poland, where they were reduced to 10 men, the Greeks were then beaten 2-1 by the Czech Republic, and secured their qualification by pulling off an unlikely win against a much fancied Russia team in their final game – eliminating them in the process.

The form points to a routine win for the Germans, but at prices as short as 1/3 (1.33), other opportunities appeal more. The half time / full time result for example appears to offer some value. Germany have been ahead at half time, and gone on to win the game, in 7 of their last 11 competitive fixtures, and there is sufficient evidence to suggest they can do so again.

Greek Question marks

Greece have conceded early goals against both Poland and the Czech Republic – indeed, the Czechs found themselves 2 up inside 6 minutes. Those early jitters could also be compounded by the loss of key personnel. Defender Avraam Papadopolous was carried off during the opening 20 minutes against Poland and was ruled out for the rest of the tournament, but more worryingly, Giorgios Karagounis, the Greek captain and talisman, will be suspended for this quarter final clash. It was his leadership and endeavour which managed to turn around a shocking defensive display in the opening period of the Poland game. Those absences could have an effect on the organisation and confidence of the Greek defence and Germany are the sort of ruthless outfit that can take advantage.

Euro 2012 Tip;

Germany Half-time/Full-time offers some value at 10/11 (1.9) with Ladbrokes. The Germans have a decent record of getting ahead early throughout the qualifying campaign, and against a Greek side missing 2 of their ‘leaders’ there are a few points of profit in the prices.
