The entries have now closed for the 2013 English Greyhound Derby with the competition receiving 153 entries and we are guaranteed a month of high quality greyhound racing. The draw for the first round has also been made and we are keen to add to our portfolio of bets for the competition in the run-up to Friday.
Today we are adding a 33/1 fancy with the sponsors, William Hill, but make sure to keep checking the site all this week as we will be offering up some greyhounds at huge prices.
Our latest free greyhound betting tip for the Greyhound Derby is another from the Barrie Draper camp in the shape of Eden Star at 33/1 with William Hill.
Eden Star was the favourite for last year’s renewal but after impressing in the opening round was forced to withdraw injured. He hasn’t quite been the same this year and was far from impressive in the Scottish Derby but it was clear that Draper was using that competition as part of the continued return to fitness for Eden Star.
The class of Eden Star is undoubted and with the quality of the training in the Draper camp he is sure to be back to his best in time for the Derby and could be peaking as the competition progresses. During the week, Eden Star trialled in a sprint around Sheffield and ran very very fast, one of the fastest times there recently and not far off the clock.
He is guaranteed to run Wimbledon well and has some nice times around there in the 28:30secs-28:50secs bracket so if back to his best can set those kind of times again which would make him very competitive.
In a note of interest, Eden Star has been changed to a middle seed for the competition and we believe this could be a beneficial move as it means he avoids trap one, which we are not convinced suits him that well, and it also means we can get some favourable draws and avoid a lot of the customary inside trouble. Although we don’t reckon much would move this 40kg beast of a dog.
Another bonus is the guarding of Eden Star against the other Barrie Draper dogs, as they have all been moved to the same ownership for the competition, which means he will avoid the likes of Ballymac Eske and Farloe Warhawk until the final should he progress that far.
This dog looks sure to go a long way in the competition if back to his best which his recent trials suggest.
