England took a 1-0 lead in the five match series by winning the second game in Southampton by 12 runs in a high scoring match on Saturday.
England won the toss and batted on a perfect surface in Southampton. Early on it looked like a high total was likely as the combination of weather pitch and playing regulations is so conducive to high scores. After Roy dazzled early and Root consolidated it was left to an incredible innings from Jos Buttler who struck an unbeaten hundred from only 55 balls, England’s second fastest ODI hundred ever, to take England to 375.
Pakistan came close, at one point they were marginal favourites in live betting, before falling short by 12 runs as England’s death bowling rescued the situation. Pakistan should be encouraged though. Without Buttler’s innings they would have chased down England’s total comfortably.
The third game of the series takes place in Bristol on Tuesday. A small ground, weather set fair, fielding restrictions and two white balls per innings point to another high scoring encounter.England probably have sightly more firepower for these types of games than Pakistan do, and rightly will be favourites in Asif Ali Pakistan have a dangerous hitter of their own and Fakhar Zaman’s 138 off only 106 balls in Southampton was encouraging.
Odds for the Bristol game with Bet Victor are England 2/5 and Pakistan 12/5. I will continue to take the value on the away side at over 2/1 between two essentially closely matched sides.
