India beat England at Trent Bridge by 203 runs to cut their deficit in the five test series to 2-1. The Fourth Test begins in Southampton on 30th January

A slightly slower pitch than the tourists had seen in the first two games helped their batsmen at Trent Bridge, giving them more time to cope with swing and seam. India passed 200 for the second and third time in 11 innings v England.Instead England who had the problems

Since start of 2016 England have been 100-4 or worse in 31 of their 62 innings. Here 19 of their 20 wickets fell to seamers. This is the first tour ever in which India have fielded four bowlers in a Test who can all touch 88mph (quicker than any of England’s seamers in this match)

England did not lose 10 wickets in a session between 1938 and 2016. Trent Bridge was the 3rd time they have done this in 2 years (24 Tests). Others: v Bangladesh at Mirpur 2016 and v NZ Auckland 2018. India’s win by 203 runs was also only the sixth instance of a team winning by 200+ runs in the third Test after losing the first 2 Tests.

Both sides have issues in their batting line up. England’s openers are out of form, Bairstow has an injury,Pope is batting too high. For India Kohli has socred over 400 runs but elsewhere in the top six consistency is difficult to find

With Bairstow’s availability in doubt, JameVince has been drafted into England’s 14-man squad for the fourth Test. Iif passed fit for the match, Bairstow will play as a specialist batsman, with Jos Buttler acting as wicket-keeper in Southampton. Vince averages just 24.90 in Test cricket and has not featured for England in a five-day game since the series defeat to New Zealand in April.
England’s squad to face India at the Ageas Bowl:

Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, Jimmy Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Sam Curran, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, James Vince, Chris Woakes

Odds for the match are England 11/10 India 7/4 and the Draw 5/1. India’s 7/4 is a far cry from the 5/1 at 2-0 down and its tempting tolook at England at odds against again, with Bet365.
