The most important team event of the tennis calendar, the Davis Cup, is going to start on Friday with the first round of ties that are going to take place all over the world. However, it is clear that the World Group is going to remain in the centre of attention this weekend.

With the draw already made and the nominations starting to become more clear, it might be a good idea to take a look at the outright markets. The Serbs are currently seen as the main favourites for the title and they should have no problems early on, as Novak Djokovic looks set to appear in Belgium and perhaps even in some of the later rounds. And, even if you take him out of the equation, the likes of Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki can beat virtually any team on a good day.

Meanwhile, the Spaniards might actually find it tough to get through to the second round, as they will be without Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, and Nicolas Almagro this week. However, the team would obviously get much stronger in the later rounds.

The bottom half of the draw might be less exciting than the top half, but there might actually be some value in backing one of those lesser teams in the outright markets. Remember, the guys from the Czech Republic managed to get the job done last year, so it would not be that surprising to see one of the weaker teams take the honors in 2013. And, with the odds that are on offer taken into consideration, the French look like a good choice, as they have a very strong line-up and a fairly acceptable draw.
