Both players have been playing rather well so far in Melbourne, although it is indeed very hard to say that Kei Nishikori does not deserve to be the favourite in this clash. For one, he is very likely the more talented player of the two and his hard work is finally starting to pay off now that he has been relatively injury-free for quite a while. On the other hand, his tomorrow’s opponent is one of the toughest players on the tour and he does not give any cheap points away, with his fight against Gilles Simon being a prime example of how tough to crack he is. The Frenchman threw everything at him, but Ferrer did not crack under the pressure and endured everything right until the very end.

Kei Nishikori has not faced a tough opponent yet, but he has nonetheless already managed to drop two sets, one against Ivan Dodig and one against Steve Johnson. Those are guys with good serves, something that Ferrer simply does not have, but Nishikori had a tremendous edge against them in the rallies, which is something he is not going to have tomorrow, as the Spaniard is a very formidable player in baseline rallies – one of the best, in fact. Therefore, shrewd punters should definitely consider a bet on Ferrer, either outright or on the games handicap line. He could possibly even win an easy set at some point, which would basically seal the bet.
