The first round of the clay court event in Acapulco is already underway, but David Ferrer, who is coming to Mexico on the back of a tournament victory in Buenos Aires, is yet to start his campaign.

The trip from Buenos Aires to Acapulco is a rather short one, so it would be wrong to think that he is going to have any problems with getting back on track straight away, but he will be in for a pretty rough start to the tournament, as the draw has not been very kind to him in that regard.

Today, he is going to be up against one of his compatriots, Albert Ramos, who is enjoying a pretty solid clay swing by his standards. Last week, he defeated Flavio Cipolla and Leonardo Mayer in straight sets before losing against Stanislas Wawrinka, which is quite good by all means.

This will obviously be a very tough match for both players, but I would expect Albert Ramos to get something from it, even though the chances of him actually going through to the next round are, as you would expect, rather slim. The thing is, he has a fairly tricky game and can build on his good first serve, which is something that Ferrer might have problems with at the start of the match, so Ramos will be looking to come out swinging and inflict some damage early on.

After that, the match is pretty likely to become one-way traffic with Ferrer outplaying his compatriot, but the total games line, which has been set at just 19 games, might be almost covered by then, so that is what might be the right choice today. The world’s number four will walk away as the winner at the end of the day, but the combination of a tricky opponent and fatigue might be more troubling than the lines suggest.
