Melbourne Renegades v Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide compiled 187 against Hobart on Wednesday thanks to Carey’s hundred and held off a spirited reply to win by 11 runs and go joint top of the table. Adelaide are probably the most improved team in this year’s competition and go into the knock out stages in good form.

The Renegades are in a close fight with Brisbane for a spot in the last four and this is their game on hand on the Heat. Not quite a must win but close enough. Melbourne aren’t in great form though they have lost their last two games against the Scorchers and the Stars.

Prices here are 10/11 each of two, at those odds you have to prefer the more reliable proposition of the Strikers

Tuesday 23rd January

Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars

The Sixers were out of contention for the knockout stages with only two wins in eight games before they played the Heat on Thursday. They then proceeded to bowl out their last four chasing visitors for 73! Four wickets for Sean Abbott, two for Nathan Lyon and two wickets, two catches for Carlos Brathwaite. The Sixers proceeded to win by nine wickets.

The Stars had one win in seven games prior to hosting Sydney Thunder on Saturday

For this match to decide who finishes bottom, the Sixers have been installed as 10/11home favourites. For two unreliable teams this match isn’t a great betting proposition

Wednesday 24th January

Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades

With these two teams sitting fifth and sixth in the league ladder, nothing less than a win will do for either if they wish to creep into the semi-finals

The Thunder chased 148 easily to beat the Melbourne Stars on Saturday

With prices 10/11 each of two in the betting markets here, it indicates a close game is in prospect and I find it difficult to separate them, no bet.

Thursday 25th January

Perth Scorchers v Adelaide Strikers

With Perth and Adelaide 1st and 2nd in the table and assured of a place in the semi-finals this could be a forerunner of a likely final match upon 4th February

On Saturday Perth hosted Hobart. Adelaide play at the Melbourne Renegades in their penultimate group game on Monday

Perth have a home advantage here, usually considerable because of travel and time zone differences and the two teams will be fighting for play-off seeding. At 8/13 Perth are decent favourites but no more than fair value at that price.
