For greyhound enthusiasts the excitement is building to the beginning of the greatest competition in the world, the Greyhound Derby, but before then we have taken a look at this evening’s Coventry card in the hope of finding some winners to re-invest in the Derby. We’ve picked out three bets for this evening, including a 4/1 shot with Totesport who ran very impressively on Sunday and is potentially being undervalued by the bookmakers.

On Sunday, Calzaghe Jack romped home in the Holystone Elf Puppy Derby around Coventry’s 450m distance but the eyecatcher in defeat in that race was Sid’s Ninja who showed nice early pace out wide and very good back straight pace before Calzaghe Jack proved just too good.

Sid’s Ninja can go one better this evening and win Heat Two of the Mutual Friends Stakes at 8:42 and should be backed to do so at the 4/1 available with Totesport.

The likely danger looks to come from the inside in the shape of whichever of trap 2 , Bush Standard, and trap 3, Lode Esteem break best. However, it is the first four bend look at Coventry for both dogs and it isn’t without expectation that neither will perform to their best.

Regardless of how the competition breaks from the traps, on Sunday’s showing Sid’s Ninja might have the early pace to lead and as the sole wide seed, with a slow starter in trap 5, he looks set for a good run. The back straight pace that he showed against Calzaghe Jack will prove useful here too as none of the other 5 are in the same class as Jack and even if turning 2nd, Ninja should be able to assert himself.

In the 9:48 race, trap 1 Son of Delboy is the favourite and looks primed to lead as he has good sprinting form but we don’t think he will stay the full 450m and are taking him on with a dog we think can compete in the early pace stakes before capitalising on any stamina issues.

Tyrur Bandit is a big price at 8/1 with bet365 to land the spoils and we reckon he has the early pace to get himself a clear run from trap 3 and challenge Son of Delboy for victory. Sectionals of 5:41s and 5:43s are good enough to turn second to Delboy and may even be good enough to lead if Delboy doesn’t show his usual speed from the sprinting traps.

Bandit has ran some fast times for this class of race in April and can win at a really nice price.

Our final free greyhound racing tip for the 29th of May comes in the 10:03 race where T3 Unique Woe has the early pace to lead the race and with a little bit of trouble in behind can hold on for victory, unlike in his race last week.

The favourites are inside the selection in traps one and two but they both like to lead which is a luxury Unique Woe won’t allow them and the 4/1 with bet365 is a solid price given the anticipated structure of the race.
