The Super Sunday game in the Premier League sees Chelsea entertain Liverpool. Both teams are struggling to keep pace with the dominant Manchester clubs, but they will also know that a win in this match will be a huge confidence boost and could get them back in the hunt for the title.
Liverpool win (Victor Chandler 15/4)
Chelsea head into this match with a strong home record, having won all four home games before the eight goal thriller against Arsenal. Look more closely at the recent form however, and the odds-on price for the Blues looks a little tight.
The defeat at QPR was a shock to say the least. Andre Villas-Boas appeared to have Chelsea purring, and it looked as though the West Londoners would get themselves back in the title race after some early season dropped points.
Once the dust had settled on the 1-0 loss at Loftus Road, it was easy to write off as a freak result. Chelsea will not finish too many games with 9 men. But subsequent performances have been flat too. They won a Carling Cup tie at Everton in extra-time, lost to Arsenal, drew a tame Champions League tie versus Genk and then scraped past Blackburn. Yakubu could easily have ruined that trip too.
Liverpool have been frustrated of late with home draws. A stalemate versus Swansea came just a few weeks after a 1-1 draw with Norwich. Away from Anfield however, the Reds have won 3 on the bounce, scoring 6 and letting in just one. While they may have issues breaking down defensive visiting teams, they have had no worries overcoming more adventurous opponents on their own patch.
While Chelsea are genuine favourites, the odds-on price about them is a little flattering given current form. Liverpool look value at 15/4 with both Victor Chandler and Stan James. That price suggests they will prevail 21% of the time. Current form makes that look decent value in my opinion. 3/1 would be nearer the mark.
