Chelsea have been made the new favourites for the 2011/2012 FA Cup, after yesterday’s draw saw Manchester United handed a tough trip to Anfield. The Stamford Bridge side beat Portsmouth 4-0 yesterday and were rewarded with a trip to either Milton Keynes or QPR, depending on the outcome of that particular FA Cup replay.
As a result of Manchester United landing an away tie with old rivals Liverpool, bookmakers reacted by pushing the Red Devils out to a best price of 7.00 (Victor Chandler, SportingBet) while Chelsea are now as short as 4.33 for FA Cup glory – though Paddy Power, Victor Chandler and Ladbrokes all stick their necks out at 5.50.
Interestingly, Tottenham are widely considered to be second favourites, at a best price of 6.50 (Coral) and are as short as 5.50 after drawing neighbours Watford in the fourth round.
Other FA Cup fourth round ties of note include Sunderland against local rivals Middlesbrough, and Crawley Town – the lowest ranked team left in this year’s FA Cup – who must travel to Hull.
There are confirmed all Premier League ties in the shape of Everton v Fulham and West Brom v Norwich, while Aston Villa could be facing Arsenal if the Gunners can beat Leeds on Monday, and Swansea could play Bolton if Owen Coyle’s men can win their third round replay.
