Valterri Bottas’ victory in Austria last weekend has made the Drivers Championship a three horse race.
Bottas’ win means he’s 15 points behind Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ championship. Hamilton himself had an unfortnate weekend with a five place grid penalty due toa gearbox change in practice, starting 8th and finishing 4th and he is now 20 points behind Championship leader Vettel
Standings are as follows
Austria saw Ricciardo’s fifth consecutive podium finish.
It is fair to say that Austria was not the most thrilling Grand Prix, we need more variability between the tyre compounds to give us more variable racing. That Vettel still leads the championship despite the modest pace advantage the Mercedes enjoys speaks to his consistency and Hamilton’s bad luck in various races.
Silverstone, one of the classic F1 circuits, awaits this weekend and with its accent on power, engines and several long straights should suit Mercedes well again. Hamilton is 8/13 to win another pole position and if he does the race should be his to lose
Odds for the race are, with Skybet,
Both red bulls are 11/4 to finish in the top 3. Perhaps this time, with Verstappen having suffered such bad luck with accidents and mechanical failures in five Grand Prix in a row, it will be time for some mean reversion and for him to have a chance to show his talent in a car that is in the team which is the third quickest on the grid, and given propensity for upsets in front of him
As it is I expect Hamilton to complete a hat-trick of wins here, at near even money
Lewis Hamilton to win 10/11
Max Verstappen to podium 11/4
