Lewis Hamilton secured his fifth World Drivers Championship in Mexico and now Mercedes will hope to tie up the Constructors title in Sao Paulo this weekend
Hamilton with nine wins this season has been in peerless form, sometimes winning races he had no right to in a car that was second best to Ferrari for much of the season. His consistency, race-craft and lack of mistakes paid off as Vettel succumbed to errors in the second half of the season
Unlike at Mexico where the altitude minimised the engine advantage of the Mercedes and Ferrari over the winning Red Bull, it should be normal service resumed between the two championship leaders at the front this weekend back at sea level.
Mercedes lead Ferrari by 55 points in the constructors championship with two races to go. Understandably given Ferrari’s outright pace Vettel is the favourite to win this race at 7/4 generally ahead of Hamilton at 9/4. Given Ferrari’s issues in turning their package into wins there maybe another angle though
Now Hamilton’s title is secured he “owes” Bottas a victory after he moved aside in Sochi when the championship was in the balance. Bottas is winless this season and doesn’t match Hamilton for outright pace but should be able to capitalise if these reverse team orders come into play.
At 6-1 with Skybet he is an interesting proposition here
