Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars
The Scorchers started the defence of their title with a win in Sydney, dismissing the Sxers for 132 which they chased for the loss of four wickets and now return to Perth, and a new stadium. It remains to be seen whether they have the home advantage that they had at the WACA
The Stars lost their first game, scoring 191 chasing the Heat’s 206 despite a brilliant innings from Marcus Stonis. A team full of big name Stars they have been installed as 8/11 favourites by William Hill here with the Scorchers 5/4 home underdogs.
For value I strongly prefer the 5/4 Perth Scorchers
Brisbane Heat v Sydney Thunder
In their first two games the Heat scored 206 to beat Stars at home with McCullum, Burns and Ross all contributing healthily with the bat then only scored 132-8 against the Renegaes and lost easily
Next Wednesday they are back in Brisbane against Sydney Thunder who in their first game beat the Sixers off the last ball chasing 150 to win thanks to Shane Watson’s 77 off 46 balls. Then at Adelaide chasing 165 they fell to for their first defeat, dismissed for 110
The Heat are 8/11 favourites here, which looks reasonableif not fantastic value. They should win
Sydney Sixers v Adelaide Strikers
The Sixers have lost their first two games, scoring 149 in the Sydney derby and 132 at home to the Scorchers. Such totals are not going to be competitive in this league
Adelaide scored 165 in their first game versus Sydney Thunder and then dismissed their opponents for 110 witbh Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan impressing and Laughlin taking three wickets in four balls as part of his 4-26
They are 21/20 underdogs here and should be backed to beat the odds-on Sixers
