Manchester City vs Southampton
Southampton face a massive challenge on the opening day of the new season. Layers make City as short as 1.17 and it is a difficult price to argue with. The Citizens boasted a near perfect home record last term, and having played the Charity Shield last weekend, the chances of them being under prepared for the start of the campaign are remote. In addition, the Saints gained promotion with a relatively mediocre away record in the Championship – their strength was at St Mary’s.
There is however, no value in the price on a home win, but there are other prices of note, and one of those is in the Asian handicap market. While it is often dangerous to get caught up in early season hype, there is evidence to suggest City will make up a 2.5 goal handicap on enough occasions to justify a punt. Last season they won by 3 or more goals in 9 of 19 games (47%) at the Etihad Stadium. Against last years promoted sides, City dished out a 4-0 beating to Swansea, and a 5-1 thrashing to Norwich. The omens are not great for Southampton, even Simon Templar would struggle to get them out of this one.
Manchester City vs Southampton – There is some value in the Asian handicap market, and as usual, Bet365 dominate those particular bets. 2.6 on Manchester City making up a -2.5 handicap looks tempting.
