The Orioles might have squandered their only chance of making the playoffs by losing the series against Cleveland, but they won’t give up just yet. In order to keep its slim wild-card chances alive, Baltimore needs to sweep the White Sox at home and the opening game promises to be the most difficult one.
Bet: Chicago White Sox
Odds: Winner Sports 2.35
Unburdened by the prospect of making the playoffs, Chicago should at least in theory play confidently and even aggressively against an opponent who failed to convert many scoring opportunities lately. The White Sox were not very effective themselves and succumbed to the Yankees with the New Yorker’s winning twice by two runs or less. Although they won’t have home pitch advantage in this series, Chicago can at least rely on a solid starting pitcher in the opening game, as Jose Quintana takes the mound.
He wasn’t very sharp lately and struggled against the Yankees, but overall he has a better ERA than his opponent and lost just five decisions in 2013. His counterpart Miguel Gonzalez was also hit hard by the Yankees in his last outing, while receiving very little support from his teammates. It is this unfortunate combination that brought the Orioles to their knees and allowed the gap separating them from Tampa Bay to increase to five victories.
Baltimore is apparently crumbling under pressure and now that they’ve lost an important series, their chances are on the line in Chicago. Just because they need to win doesn’t automatically mean that the Orioles will prevail and as long as Winner Sports presents us with odds of 2.35 for the White Sox to win, I’d say we should take advantage.
