Match Odds Betting Preview
Arsenal are big favourites in this one according to the layers. They have won five of ten at home, but they have not lost to any of the bottom half sides, and rattled in six goals versus Southampton and seven against Newcastle. They do have a tendency to concede but the struggles in front of goal that the visitors are having may mean that is not an issue.
West Ham have mustered a paltry five away goals this term, and wins at QPR and Newcastle gloss over a record which has seen them beaten six times. Manager Sam Allardyce has voiced his concern about a lack of goals, and has also spoken of utilising his squad in this match in an effort to find a solution. Whether the Emirates is the right place to experiment remains to be seen.
The Overs/Unders market is an interesting one. West Ham have gone ‘Unders’ in 50% of their away games, Arsenal have gone ‘Unders’ in 50% of their home games – yet there is a huge disparity in the prices, with Pinnacle going 1.69 on Overs, while they are also best price on Unders at 2.3. For a coin toss those prices look out of step – maybe Big Sam’s statements about trying to score more goals away has led the bookmakers to assume goals are on the cards.
Theo Walcott has been in great form of late, and he is 2.1 with Betfair to score any time. Another Arsenal favourite who is in form – Jack Wilshire – can be backed at 6.0 with William Hill. A home win to nil, is a best price 2.5 with Bet365, but if West Ham do manage one it may well be a set piece – penalty taker Mark Noble is 11.0 with Bwin and the same firm are confident Tomkins and Reid will not score either, offering 23.0 about both. Also note loanee Chamakh is ineligible for this one, despite prices being offered.
