The third day of the World Series of Poker Main Event is complete, with just 852 of the original 6,865 entrants remaining in the hunt for the coveted gold WSOP bracelet, plus the $8,711,956 in first place prize money. Read on for all the latest news from the Rio, in Las Vegas.
WSOP Event #58 – $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event
1,864 players returned for Day 3 of the 2011 WSOP Main Event, the first time that all remaining players had played under the same roof. Ben Lamb was the chip leader – hardly a surprise given the ridiculous form he’s been throughout this 42nd annual World Series of Poker – though he had a tougher time of it on Day 3.
Lamb is still very much in the WSOP Main Event, but only bagged up 450,000 in chips; good for 37th place overall, but a long way off the new chip leader, Patrick Poirier. He and Daryl Jace are the only players in the WSOP Main Event with over one million in chips ahead of Day 4.
There are plenty of big name poker pros still in the World Series of Poker Main Event, such as Phil Hellmuth, Amanda Musumeci, Erick Lindgren, Tony Hachem, Freddy Deeb, Jake Cody and Daniel Negreanu.
Britain’s highest placed player at the moment is Rupert Elder, who sits in 20th place with 606,000. Elder recently landed the big prize at the EPT San Remo, collecting €930,000 in the process.
Amongst the big names that crashed out on Day 3 of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event were Annette Obrestad, Mike Caro, Jason Mercier, Justin Bonomo, Patrik Antonius, Sam Stein and Neil Channing.
For the first time in the history of the World Series of Poker, all the action was beamed live around the world courtesy of ESPN.
But the players won’t be too concerned about that particular piece of history; they are much more concerned with taking down a chunk of the $64,531,000 prize pool. The top 693 players will be paid, with a minimum payout of $19,359. Players making the final table – the “November Nine” – will be guaranteed $782,115.
